Starfish – Saving One Makes All the Difference in the World

Today is my daughter’s 45 th Birthday.

As I mentioned in an prior blog   18 Wheels to Key West  she was my Starfish thrower and she saved me when she hypothetically threw me back in the ocean.

It reminds me of that song by Pink Floyd  “Wish You Were Here”

Excerpt from lyrics:

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We’re just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.

I was that lost soul.

I have been clean since 1998. I arrived in Key West in 92.  Needlessness too say old habits die hard sometimes. I backslid on numerous occasions.

She was still in my corner.

We’re like Starfish…saving one makes all the difference in the world

The Starfish Story

Kids_Visit_12-Starfish

adapted from The Star Thrower
by Loren Eiseley (1907 – 1977)

Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, “It made a difference for that one.”

The opal starfish is a replica of the starfish ring, that now resides on her finger that I also gifted her with.

I designed this for her and put it in a beautiful frame.

The Planet Mars…

Mars gets too me in ways I feel overwhelmed at times. I can be so intense and that intensity when it comes to debates, sex, enthusiasm gets over charged at intervals. I really try to be less forceful, but my plutonium and Martian ways always seem too burst forth with little or no control. I mean well and have good intent, it just is taken the wrong way at times.

Sometimes I wonder if person’s really are listening…it seems if they were;  they would see what I was trying to say , not what they perceived me too say.

They Come Back

White_Swan

The swan is in the shadows but only has to float just a bit to be in the Light.

I enjoyed this post and can resonate with his remark

“I sent the picture to my friend, to inspire and sustain her on her difficult journey, a reminder that it is often only after we travel through and leave a place of deep darkness that we enter a place of great light.”

Just earlier I was mentioning in conversation the word “Metaphor” and “Parable”

I found a picture of a huge Iguana I took a few years back here in Key West.

Iggy

Many of these beautiful creatures succumbed to a deep freeze that enveloped Key West back in 2010.

“Comatose iguanas tumbled off trees. Countless native and exotic fish floated to waters’ surface. Manatees huddled at warm-water outfalls of power plants. And young sea turtles, seized by the cold, bobbed to the top like beach balls.”

The same year my special friend went to prison.

Today, I decided to print “Iggy” and send an uplifting card to him.

Comparing his situation to the strong Iguanas and how they survived and returned.

Our island is filled with baby Iguanas.

We don’t see the Dinosaur Iguanas anymore.

They do come back.

Sisters

Have you heard of the Three Sister Garden ?

Excerpt from:

Corn is the oldest sister. She stands tall in the center.

Squash is the next sister. She grows over the mound, protecting her sisters from weeds and shades the soil from the sun with her leaves, keeping it cool and moist.

Beans are the third sister. She climbs through squash and then up corn to bind all together as she reaches for the sun. Beans help keep the soil fertile by coverting the sun’s energy into nitrogen filled nodules that grow on its roots. As beans grow they use the stored nitrogen as food.

I love my Sisters.

Gifts in the Transit

I checked the mail today and the package arrived. As I walked to the box I with full intent requested a warm snuggle  cause it has turned cold. So, I thought a nice hot shower and a warm snug in the bug gown. I took the package and walked back to the apartment. I am so happy. I love everything and everything fits me perfectly. Thank you so much.

Just what I ordered a snug in the bug

Our friend  is brain dead and the life support will be removed in the am.

Yes, my Thanksgiving and the kids visit was more than a stressful time. I have also been sick, heart tremors and a feeling of impeding doom.

I just want to sleep.

Some shit going around I guess.

I guess it just reminded me of all the dysfunctional families that we have privy to be in our lives.

Well, I had breakfast for dinner and am still hungry. Last evening I had hot oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins. It was so comforting too me. Tonight I am going to put the kettle on to boil for a cup of Chai Tea and I am taking a just right hot shower and getting into the snug while putting my toes into the kewl slippers.  I tried my coat on I bought in 2009 and have worn maybe three times. It still fit. Now, I have the perfect wind jacket with a hood and I love the color teal.

So thoughtful and perfect.

I am going to step away as far as I can from the Syndrome. It may mean not associating with them.

Someone is going to be RICH with the 500 Million Power Ball drawing tonight.

A Symphony of Angels

I am overwhelmed. I  have been getting together Aeoliah’s music for a music CD I am creating for gifting. My friend in Canada that was my online friend for over 10 years, we were like sisters and she sent me Angel Love and Angel Love 2 on tape cassette for when my Purrby cat died in November 2003.

My friend passed in 2008 on Halloween Eve.

Two of my closest hearts.

The music brought a peacefulness too me.

I just now found the song Purrby really liked. He would purr so loudly when I played this particular song. He loved birds and was fascinated sitting and watching from his window. He would sit at the bottom of my bird cages and never bother them. The cockatiels walked on his back.

I wanted to share with you…Angels Of Grace
