Been to London

Been to France

Traveled by Train through Spain

Passing Sunflowers in the Rain

Transfixed by island of Es Vedra
Sirens of the Sea
IBIZA

Rode camels in the desert

Sit in ruins of mammoth caves
of Myths and Hercules Legions engraved
at times secluded by the tide

Walked the maze of streets
Following white feathers

Medina’s filled with spice and trinkets

Smelled the Moroccan Rose with Jasmine entwined

Views of Gibraltar from the vine filled terrace
Snow capped Rif and Atlas Mountains

Sipping mint tea from Baba’s Cafe
Smoking Kif and Hashish

My ever watchful mother’s eye on a two-year old
with wanderlust

Moments on Polaroid confiscated
Of this special place and time

Es-Vedra-Ibiza

(Mystical island of Es Vedra)

Popular myths surrounding Es Vedra include that it was the home of the sirens and sea-nymphs who tried to lure Ulysses from his ship in Homer’s Odyssey, and the birth place and holy island of the Phoenician goddess, Tanit.

Christmas Full Moon

I love Full Moons

This year it falls on the 25 th of December.

Winter solstice is on December 22 2015.

It is an astronomical phenomenon marking the shortest day and the longest night of the year. Winter solstice occurs for the Northern Hemisphere in December and for the Southern Hemisphere in June.

It is called the Full Cold Moon

The full moon hasn’t fallen on Christmas Day since 1977.

Some of My Deco’s

A poem I wrote several years ago.

Christmas isn’t JUST about receiving gifts

It’s in the Giving of our Time and gifts from the Heart

A tin full of homemade cookies

A decorated jar of homemade bath salts to sooth someone’s weary bones

A phone call to let someone know you’re thinking of them

The Spirit of the Holidays should be everyday

No one is guaranteed tomorrow

Seven out of 10 Americans are one paycheck away from being homeless.

Be Thankful for each and every blessing

Keep your stress levels low and evenly balanced by being focused and positive

Shelter from the heat and cold

Food in our tummies

Music too sooth us

Animals (Especially Cats) to love and cherish

Love, Health and a Bit of Abundance
with Time to Enjoy

The Elixir of Hope

Someone gave me a wooden plaque many years ago with this writing on it.

“A friend is a person who is for you always

He wants nothing from you except that you be yourself.

He is the one being with whom you can feel safe.

With him you can utter your heart, its badness and its goodness.

Like the shade of a great tree in the noonday heat is a friend.

A friend is an impregnable citadel of refuge in the strife of existence.

It is he that keeps alive your faith in human nature,
that makes you believe that it is a good universe.

He is the antidote to despair, the elixir of hope,
the tonic for depression…….

Give to him without reluctance.”

“This is not only a full moon for me. This is an image of your face for me.”

Today as the full blue moon rises we know the “man in the moon” still watches over all of us

My Mom would have been 91 years young today. I miss her. Her final peace came on June 17 th 2004. Her sweet heart ceased to beat.

A poem I wrote for my father who was always “my man in the moon” His final peace came in 2001 on the 31 st of January.

Sound of Growing Corn

© Cynthia Martz

Someday I want to walk out to the edge of a cornfield
on a full moon night
I will sit myself down on the cool earth
and LISTEN

Can you really hear the corn grow?
Is it growing before my very eyes?
I will look  up into the starry heavens and LISTEN

The corn stalks weave back and forth like a field of wheat smooth and in sync
I can Hear the corn-growing
in the stillness of the night

in light of the full moon
it is a beautiful sound
I will sleep awhile and LISTEN to my dreams

Band-Aids and Rubber Bands

band-aid

The Band-Aid, It doesn’t really fix anything; it just covers things up.

I am tired of Band-Aids other than for a sore cuticle or a small wound that needs coverage. Otherwise the real problem is never solved. The Band-Aid that is prescribed usually causes another symptom that requires yet another.

Excuses remind me of Band-Aids too.

Not one for excuses either. If you make plans and can’t make it, at least let me know. Nothing like feeling out on the proverbial limb so too speak.

Wait for no one. Give or take a half hour or so Smile

Rubber-Bands

Found on WWW

They can only stretch so far. No one knows for certain how far you or someone else can safely stretch it  before it snaps.

I found this great write-up on the web also.

Rubber Band Man (Copyright 2003 Ron McCray)

“Consider the rubber band. It is a continuous loop of flexible material that in its natural state is relaxed and adapts to where it happens to be placed in the moment. It can be stretched to be larger than it seems. This can only happen through force, by being stretched beyond its natural circumference. When the force is released, the rubber band “snaps” back into its original state. Sometimes a rubber band is stretched too far or too and breaks losing the completeness of its original configuration, and in effect, becoming useless. Although this fate is not visited on all rubber bands, the potential is always their for all of them.

How Is Your Rubberband Today?

Avoided

I love that quote above. We have all been in that spot of avoidance at some time in our lives. Being avoided and yes avoiding others.

Seriously it has taken me awhile, but when I say I am going to do something I do it.

Procrastination is wasted time. It is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.

Shadows dancing in the sunlit prisms
Palm fronds swaying in a summer breeze
Investigating the maze of paths
Contemplating a dream of epic proportions

Everything is peaceful and content

Spiders weaving there webs
Undisturbed, not perturbed
waiting on the morning dew
and SURVIVING

Thankful For all my Blessings

Back in 1994, I over indulged and with the add on effects of cold remedies I had taken all week for a lingering cold. This was NOT a great combo. A recipe for mayhem.

Their was no snow on the ground since this is Key West, but I think I did get thrown from a moving truck after a bit too much E&J and eggnog was drank before dinner was served.

I remember we had a beautiful Pineapple Ham,Turkey and all the trimmings. But alas I missed it.

The next morning I woke and realized I had a broken foot in not one but three places.

So, this song kinda reminds me of me back when.

Starfish – Saving One Makes All the Difference in the World

Today is my daughter’s 45 th Birthday.

As I mentioned in an prior blog   18 Wheels to Key West  she was my Starfish thrower and she saved me when she hypothetically threw me back in the ocean.

It reminds me of that song by Pink Floyd  “Wish You Were Here”

Excerpt from lyrics:

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We’re just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.

I was that lost soul.

I have been clean since 1998. I arrived in Key West in 92.  Needlessness too say old habits die hard sometimes. I backslid on numerous occasions.

She was still in my corner.

We’re like Starfish…saving one makes all the difference in the world

The Starfish Story

Kids_Visit_12-Starfish

adapted from The Star Thrower
by Loren Eiseley (1907 – 1977)

Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, “It made a difference for that one.”

The opal starfish is a replica of the starfish ring, that now resides on her finger that I also gifted her with.

The Planet Mars…

Mars gets too me in ways I feel overwhelmed at times. I can be so intense and that intensity when it comes to debates, sex, enthusiasm gets over charged at intervals. I really try to be less forceful, but my plutonium and Martian ways always seem too burst forth with little or no control. I mean well and have good intent, it just is taken the wrong way at times.

Sometimes I wonder if person’s really are listening…it seems if they were;  they would see what I was trying to say , not what they perceived me too say.

Almost May

I’m not wasting my brain
Thinking about You

Mundane Things

Phone numbers changed

It’s taken me some time
To delete you from my mind

There’s No Recycle on my horizon
No more forgiveness in my heart for you

Listen to the PHOENIX song

Dance like nobody’s watching;
Love like you’ve never been hurt.
Sing like nobody’s listening
Live like it’s heaven on earth.

The Drowning

drowning_thouhts

The water was turbulent
The color of ink
Murky and foreboding

I prayed for time

I jumped into the fray

Searching
My arms and legs moved quickly like tentacles
Hoping for a connection

I sensed her

Reaching

I held her

She panicked and flung herself from my grasp

I felt her

Slide past, descending into her watery grave of a dreamless rest
